    Goals and Targets

    What is Science-Based Targets (SBTs)?

Emission reduction targets aligned with the level of decarbonisation required to keep global temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validates corporate targets.

    Why it matters

SBTs provide a credible, externally validated framework for emissions reduction. Large corporates with SBTi commitments are required to engage their supply chains, creating a trickle-down effect that increasingly reaches SMEs.

    Example

A tech company commits to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% by 2030 from a 2022 baseline. The target is submitted to SBTi for validation and, once approved, is published on the company's website.
